I would just like to start by asking what in the Hades was that movie? I mean really. I am to the point of buying another copy of the first two books and sending them to the directors. They don't know what the crap they are doing. I am not sure if this movie was much better than the first. I hate to say it, but even though my hopes weren't big at all they were completely crushed. I knew that in the end I would be disappointed; I just didn't know how by how much.
Now that I am done with my "what in Tartarus were they thinking" bit, I will move on to what was wrong in a more direct approach.
The problems with the movie starts at the first scene as I said. If you haven't seen the movie, the first scene starts with young Thalia, Annabeth, Luke, and Grover running to camp being chased by monsters. So what was wrong with that scene. Well for starters they were not the right ages. Luke and Thalia were supposted to be older than Annabeth, but, of course, that doesn't happen. The next problem isn't really the scene as it is what was said. Percy is explaining the story and he says that 4 demigods were trying to make it to camp. Well, this is Percy talking and he should know that Grover is a protector, not a demigod. The appropriate line would have said three demigods.
Moving along. What is up with Clarisse? She seemed kind of nice.
And what about all the technology? I am not upset that Clarisse has a phone. That doesn't bother me at all. I mean a few demigods do have phones, not many, but a few do. What bothers me is that Annabeth has a tablet for crying out loud. And that Dionysus was okay with her using it. Like I said, a few demigods do have phones, but they hardly ever use them because that attract monsters!
Speaking of Mr. D, is it just me or was he helpful? It is not just me? Good, it is not just me. Oh, normally I would let this go, but since they completely ruined the movie why not nit pick it? It is Peter Johnson not Perry Johnson!
Oh, and three names: Chris, Silena, and Ethan. They are not part of the books yet!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and the Nectar....the Nectar. If the book characters were to drink that much Nectar, they would burn from the inside out. But apparently in the movie it is perfectly fine! To quote the movie, 'If you haven't had, you haven't lived"......
I don't know about you, but I really wanted to see Percy as a guinea pig. Heck, I was looking forward to it, but apparently Circe decided that she wanted to build an amusement park on top of Polyphemus' island. Same thing. Right? Oh, and Grover WAS in a sort of wedding dress, but they never explained it in the movie. I bet that was a bit confusing to people who haven't read the books.
Well, speaking of Grover, he is stuck in Polyphemus's cave for most of the movie, right? Nope, he is actually part of the movie for a bit...
And the Mist? What was the explanation? Some people might say that it was easier, but here is a just as easy correct way to explain it. "It is a substance that makes the abnormal look normal. It can't be explained how it works. It just does." How simple was that?
I don't think that they captured Tyson's personality right. I have said before and I will say it again, Tyson is like a giant, lovable 4 year old. (If you are new to my blog and want to read my post on Tyson click this link: http://mountolympusweekly.blogspot.com/2012/12/tyson.html.)
Speaking of personalities, was it me or did Annabeth seem completely confused 99.999999% of the time? For the daughter of Athena, she sure didn't know that much. Also Percy wasn't as funny as he should have been. He was not the Percy from the books.
They also messed up Clarisse's ship. She is suppose to have ghosts not zombies. How hard is that? Apparently really hard.
Don't even get me started on the whole Kronus thing. It was all 100,000,000,000,000,000,000% wrong. Not a bit of it was right. And what is it with him eating Luke? Yeah, sure... He is supposed to be somewhat grateful to Luke. I am really not going to say all that was wrong with that scene. We would be here forever. Just one last thing about the Kronus scene. Percy's sword is not the "cursed blade", and Poseidon never killed Kronus with that sword.
Where is Tantalus? He gives Clarisse the quest not Mr. D. And Chiron was supposed to be kicked out of camp because he was a suspect for killed Thailia's tree. Talking about Chiron and the tree, there is not a cure for the poison on the tree.
Let's not forget the manticore. Actually let's forget him. He is not supposed be there anyway.
I could keep going all day on what was wrong with this movie, but I am going to save some for a later date. The last thing I want to say is about The Great Prophecy. Besides the fact that they messed up how and when he heard the prophecy, the last I checked the prophecy said, "Reach 16 against all odds" not "Reach 20 against all odds". What?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I know I just scratched the surface of what was wrong with the movie, but I would be here the rest of the day going over it all. And I will be back when the movie comes out on DVD to go over more things that were wrong that I forgot about.
Thanks for reading and please tell me in the comments below your take on the movie and what really frustrated you.
